Junior School Sport

The St Nicholas Sports Programme reflects our vision of the holistic development of all our learners. We aim to develop personal discipline, team work, collaboration, problem solving, passion, spirit, as well as health and fitness, through sport.

Our sporting ethos is about finding and fostering the ‘Champion Within’, as per Nelson Mandela’s legacy. Good sportsmanship is actively developed through learner participation in all the major sporting leagues. We host and participate in a number of tournaments throughout the year in the various sporting codes. Our children are offered the opportunity to participate in sporting opportunities during the year such as our Epic Adventure and the Soccer Tour to Gauteng.

Every year, a group of our Grade Seven learners embark on the Epic Adventure; an exciting and life-changing experience. This includes a 45km walk on the beach from Trafalgar to Margate over two days and then a relay format run on the third day. The relay route covers the second half of the Comrades Marathon, from Drummond to Alexandra Park and then back to St Nicholas. The children and staff are very committed to this event and preparation and training is critical.

Our Junior School Boys’ Soccer Teams go on a Soccer Tour to Gauteng for four days. This includes a pre-season tour to Camp Discovery, outside Pretoria, a tour of FNB Stadium, as well as a mini tour of Sandton City. The highlight of this tour is their participation in the Camp Discovery Soccer Tournament. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young and passionate soccer stars.

A variety of sport is offered to our Junior School learners and all learners are expected to participate in sport, whether competitively or recreationally.
